Ingredients
Wondering what the four ingredients in a 4-ingredient peanut butter banana oatmeal cookie recipe are? Here is exactly what you need:

- Bananas - The mashed bananas are all that sweeten these cookies, so make sure it's a really ripe and spotty one.
- Oats - These should be rolled or old-fashioned oats. Use certified gluten-free oats if necessary for gluten-free cookies.
- Nut/seed butter - Use any you have on hand/enjoy. Peanut butter, cashew butter, almond butter, sunflower seed butter or pumpkin seed butter are all great.
- Chocolate chips - I like to use semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips, but you could also break up a bar of chocolate.
Flavour Variations
If you're not a chocolate lover, you can switch out the chocolate chips for any other mix-ins you fancy. Some ideas include cacao nibs, shredded coconut, walnuts, pecans, pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds, or dried fruit like cranberries, chopped dates, or raisins.
You can also add your favourite spices such as cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg or pumpkin spice. Half to one teaspoon, depending on how strong you want the taste is a good place to start.
How To Make Banana Peanut Butter Oatmeal Cookies
Can't wait to make these easy Banana Peanut Butter Oatmeal Cookies? The full printable recipe is below, but first, let me walk you through the steps to set you up for success in your kitchen. I recommend watching my recipe video if you're more of a visual learner.
1 - Mash the bananas in a mixing bowl.

2 - Mix in the nut butter, then stir in the dry ingredients.

3 - Use a cookie scoop or ice cream scoop to portion out onto a prepared baking sheet.

4 - Flatten with damp fingers, then press in a few extra chocolate chips for decoration before baking. You can even make air fryer oatmeal cookies. Instructions are included in the recipe below.

Cookie Size
I like quite big cookies (about 3 tablespoons of batter per cookie) but you can make your cookies any size you like. Just be sure to adjust the baking time accordingly. Once done, the bottoms will be golden and the top and sides should be lightly browned.

Recipe

Peanut Butter Banana Oatmeal Cookies
Author:WATCH HOW TO MAKE IT
Ingredients
- 2 medium very ripe bananas (about 276g or 10oz once peeled)
- 6 tablespoons peanut butter, or any other nut/seed butter
- 1½ cups (150 grams) rolled/old fashioned oats
- ⅛ teaspoon fine sea salt
- heaping ¼ cup (50 grams) chocolate chips, plus a few more to decorate the top
RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT
INSTRUCTIONS
To oven bake
- Preheat oven to 350F (175°C) and line a large baking tray with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, mash the bananas with a fork until a wet, smooth puree. Add the peanut butter and mix together, working out any peanut butter lumps.
- Add the oats, salt and chocolate chips and stir to combine.
- Use a cookie/ice cream scoop to drop portions of the cookie dough onto the lined baking tray. My scoop holds 3 tablespoons. If yours is slightly different, adjust the cooking time a little to compensate.
- Lightly wet your fingers and press each cookie mound down into an approximately half-inch-thick round and smooth around the edges to neaten them up.
- Press a few chocolate chips into the top and bake for 11 to 12 minutes, or until golden on the bottom and lightly browned and set on the top and sides. They aren't crispy cookies, so there will be some give if you press into the tops.
- Transfer to a wire rack to cool.
To air fry
- Make the cookie dough as above.
- Line the air fryer basket with a piece of parchment paper, making sure to leave some space for airflow around the edges. Alternatively, if just cooking one or 2 at a time, you can cut small cookie-sized squares of paper. Leftover uncooked cookie dough will keep in the fridge for a few days.
- Scoop the cookie dough out onto the parchment paper, then with wet fingers, press each cookie mound down into an approximately half-inch-thick round and smooth around the edges to neaten them up.
- Air fry on the bake setting if you have one, at 325 for about 8 minutes or until golden on the bottom and lightly browned and set on the top and sides. All air fryers vary, so keep a close eye on them in the last few minutes.

Not recommended. I won't use this recipe again.

Delicious recipe, you have the ratios perfect! I added a tiny bit of honey to mine, other than that I followed the recipe and my husband and I loved them. So did my greyhound haha (minus the chocolate for him)
Melanie McDonald says
Thanks for your review, Krystal. I always love it when my recipes get approved by doggos! My boys really like these too. I make them without the chocolate chips so I can share, then drizzle some chocolate on the human's share before we eat them.

I made this recipe last night as I had some over ripe bananas sat staring at me on the countertop!
When I was going through my recipes on Paprika I remembered seeing one for peanut butter and banana, so it was rude not to make a batch.
I am not normally that successful with banana in baked goods, so only made a small batch to try, the rest went into a Nigella Muffin recipe, sorry Mel!
These cookies are on repeat now - OMG! My husband does not like peanut butter, but devoured these with a big smile on his face😋!
Thanks Mel, another winner xxx
Roberta says
These are delicious, super easy to make and taste good even if baked in the air fryer 🤍 thank u

These were great!
I didn't have chocolate chips, so I made them with the suggested swap/add ins of raisins and cinnamon. Goes very nicely together, and I think I might try with another nut butter next time. I admit that I doubled the batch and made 12 giant cookies! Baked them for another 10 minutes or so.
Very nice, healthy and I'll definitely make again! Thank you for sharing the recipe!
Marian says
Delicious! Simple, easy, and so yummy. My bananas weren’t overly ripe (but I didn’t want to wait to try this recipe) and the sweetness was perfect! Definitely going to try with shredded coconut next time. So easy, so delicious! Half of the “batter” didn’t make it into the oven lol. I’m going to have a couple with my coffee tomorrow morning! (If there are any left by then lol)
Melanie McDonald says
Ha ha, so pleased you enjoyed them, Marian!
Marian says
So I’ve been making these literally every day. I mash the banana and mix in the peanut butter until it’s super smooth. Then I add the chocolate chips. I tried this mix, before adding the oats, and it’s heaven! It tastes so good and has such a pleasant mouthfeel. I put it in the freezer and it made a delicious “nice cream”! I had to share this just in case anyone wanted to try it :)

I've made these several times, and they are super easy and very good.As a no salt/sugar/oil vegan, it's difficult to find baked goods recipes that taste halfway decent, and this is one of the few that works. I also mix up the add-ins, esp. like them with dried cranberries and walnuts. I've even added an extra 1/3 banana so I can mix in 3 or 4 things. It needs the additional moisture with more than two extras. Thank you for helping with my sweet tooth!
Paula says
I just made a batch of these cookies. They are excellent. I let them cook a little longer because I like the burnt flavor. This is one of the easiest recipes I have made over the past year and it will be my go to from now on.
Jo says
This is my new go-to recipe for overripe bananas! Quick, easy and delicious. The recipe is perfect as written, although I did add a little cinnamon to my second batch for a slight variation. Will try some dried fruit next time. Thanks so much for all your delious recipes!
Karen says
I agree. Fab recipe that the whole family enjoyed. Appreciate they are pretty healthy with minimal ingredients too. Thanks Mel!
Patty says
I wish I could print some of my husbands comments!! But they aren’t fit for proper conversation 😁 These “cookies “ and I use the term very loosely are terrible!! I am new to the airfryer and was So excited to try something this easy! My advice is Don’t… make a real cookie with a normal recipe! This just tastes of peanut butter, oats and banana. Nothing like a chocolate chip cookie. We did get a good laugh at how we could joke with cookie lovers excited to get a homemade cookie… and then…. There’s this!!! Just terrible 😞
Melanie McDonald says
If you want a normal/real chocolate chip cookie recipe, why would you make a very healthy, naturally sweetened, cookie recipe made only from oats, banana, and peanut butter? Funnily enough, they aren't going to magically turn into a flour-based, buttery, sugary cookie when you put them in the air fryer. 🤯
Cyn says
This is great!
If you want a normal cookie search up a normal cookie recipe. These are fantastic and delicious! It’s healthy and my 1 year old son LOVES THEM!
Marge Teilhaber says
GREAT REPLY, MELANIE!!! Ya gotta know from the ingredients what the end result will be. GROAN!!
Julie J says
Hi Mel, I wondered if you could use raisins instead of chocolate chips? I love chocolate but some family members don't.
Melanie McDonald says
Yes that would work. Or chopped dates or nuts. Enjoy!
Kat says
Air fryer approved! Made a double batch of these and we all really enjoyed them! I’m super happy because they were so quick and easy. Another use for my over ripened bananas! Thank you!!
Robyn says
I really love this recipe. I accidentally used 1 ½ cups oatmeal instead of ½ cup and they turned out like yummy biscuit cookies. Actually really yummy. I’ll have to make them correctly next time! I tried both the oven and air fryer method and I like the extra crispiness the air fryer gave it. Thanks Mel for another great recipe!
Melanie McDonald says
So pleased you enjoyed them Robyn! 1½ cups of oats is the correct amount so sounds like they turned out exactly as they should. Happy holidays!
Sandra says
Thanks for the inspo. I used 2 packs of cocoa and sea salt it make for the oatmeal. I honestly didn’t measure anything else. However I needed the tips and ingredients. Trying things for Veganuary.

Tastes great and healthy. I ground up my oats in the blender. Thank you for sharing this recipe!
Carol says
I just made these tonight, Mel. They are SOOO good! For the 1/3 cup of oats, I used oat flour because the batter was too loose. I probably pureed the banana too much. My cookie scoop is 1 1/2 tablespoons so I baked them for 8 minutes and they are perfect. Thank you so much for another great recipe! 🙂 🍪
Melanie McDonald says
I'm so pleased you enjoyed the recipe! For future reference, the batter is a very loose and wet batter.
Kelly Aldrich says
Super delicious! Easy and healthy!
