COOK TIME: 5 minutesminutes
TOTAL TIME: 7 minutesminutes
Servings: 16x 1 tablespoon servings
Ingredients
1 cup (240mls)maple syrup, or vegan bee-free honey
3tablespoonsred chili pepper flakes
¾teaspoondried thyme
2tablespoonsapple cider vinegar
INSTRUCTIONS
Add the maple syrup, chili flakes, and thyme to a small saucepan and stir together.
Place over medium heat and bring to a boil.
Once it starts bubbling well turn off the heat.
Add the apple cider vinegar, stir, then leave in the pan to cool a little before pouring into a jar to store. I don't strain mine. I think it looks pretty with the bits in it and I like that it gets a bit spicier with time as the chili flakes steep. You can strain it through a sieve if you prefer it with no bits.
NOTES
Use clean, dry glass jars for storage. Any moisture could cause early spoilage. Made with dried chili peppers as per this recipe your hot "honey" will easily keep for 3 to 4 months. If made with maple syrup store it in the fridge. If you use vegan honey I recommend storing it in the pantry or a cool cupboard instead because it will get too thick and gloopy to use if you refrigerate it.
